How do braces straighten crooked teeth?

Smiling Girl with Braces

Braces use constant, gentle pressure, which over time, move teeth into better positions. Your braces are at work every moment of your orthodontic treatment. The two main components of your braces are: the brackets that are placed on your teeth and the main archwire that connects them. The bracket is a piece of shaped metal or ceramic that we affix to each tooth. The archwire is bent to reflect your “ideal” bite. In other words, it reflects the way we want you to look after treatment. The wire threads through the brackets and, as the wire tries to return to its original shape, it applies pressure to move your teeth. Picture your tooth resting in your jaw bone. With pressure on one side from the archwire, the bone on the other side gives way. The tooth moves. New bone grows in behind. Attached to your braces, elastics (rubber bands) exert the proper force that creates the right amount of pressure to move the teeth. In order for this force to remain constant, elastics must be worn all the time and changed every day.

Different Types of Braces

We offer Master Series metal stainless steel braces, which are smaller and more comfortable due to their low profile. They have more appeal than other brands because of the unique design and leading edge features that help keep your orthodontist’s treatment goals in mind. A wide range of colour choices in ligature ties will allow you to have a little fun showing off your braces!

Champagne coloured braces truly offer the best of both worlds – the durability of stainless steel and the aesthetics to blend into the natural shade of the tooth. A unique proprietary process ensures these Iconix braces will stay champagne for the duration of treatment. When matched with pearl ligatures, Iconix offers a complete patient pleasing cosmetic system that requires literally no sacrifice on your part.

The main advantage of clear braces is their aesthetic and cosmetic appeal. Radiance clear braces are made from ceramic alloys or plastic polymers which offers exceptional clarity and transparency. They have a great following, especially among adults who want to align their teeth and correct their bites without drawing too much attention. The design of the bracket is comfortable and we offer clear or pearl ligature ties so they blend in perfectly.
